My Last Vacation with Mom: New York

June 16, 2013

My cousins planned an East Coast trip with a couple of my aunts and mom. We had never done anything like this before, so we were all pretty excited. I didn’t know it at the time, but this would end up being the last vacation I ever took with my mom. I knew she was pretty bored since she retired, so I was really happy that she could spend some time away from home. For the next few days, we would spend some time in different cities throughout the east, starting with New York. My mom, Auntie Ruth, and I flew to New York to meet up with Troy and Doah, who had been in Boston the day before. I don’t think my mom has ever been to New York, but I have for an 8th grade graduation trip. Unfortunately, my brother and his family couldn’t make the trip out. There were a couple of other cousins that couldn’t make it either.

We stayed in New Jersey and took the subway into the city. To be honest, New York isn’t really my kind of city. It’s just too busy for my taste. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a beautiful city full of culture and stories, but it’s just not my thing. It didn’t take away from me enjoying my time there, however.

We’re not entirely sure what happened, but when my cousins and I got back to the hotel at 6:30am after being out all night in New York, there were firetrucks and firemen clearing out the building. That’s when my mom and aunt saw us coming back to the hotel. Hahaha whoops.

We spent two nights in New York before heading to Philadelphia to meet up with Doah’s mom and brother.
