Mom
December 14-22, 2013
The next several days after my mom passed away was spent planning her funeral. It was mostly a time spent with family, friends, and loved ones. I think we were all still in shock at her sudden passing. We had actually come from my brother’s father-in-law’s funeral the same day, so it was a tough day for everyone to have to go throu. I was at my work holiday party when I got the call from my sisters. They both flew into town the next day, and we all stayed at my brother’s house for the next several days. I was worried about my older niece. I could tell something wasn’t right with her. She was still young, but old enough to feel the loss of two grandparents in a matter of days. My mom and Ella were like best friends. She used to come over to play with my mom and no matter how tired my mom was, she always had enough energy to keep my niece entertained. But as the old adage goes, “life goes on”, and we all know my mom and brother’s father-in-law are both in a better place now.

Several of my coworkers came to pay their respect during my mom’s memorial service. It really meant a lot to have them there for support.

After the funeral service, we had our lunch gathering at Moonstar Restaurant, which was the place we had lunch after my brother’s father-in-law’s funeral several days earlier.

Most of my cousins had a get-together at one of my cousin’s apartment, since it was the first time we had seen some of them in over a year.

Having a lot of kids around the house definitely helped cope with the losses, because it showed that we’re family. It reminded me that we’re all here for each other, and we support one another.
