Alani’s Disneyland Birthday

April 14, 2014

Rex and Liza decided to celebrate Alani’s 4th birthday by going to Disneyland! It was also the first time my cousin Mica had ever visited the States. She flew from the Philippines to accept a journalism award for a story she did abo Filipino kids living and surviving in a dirty river. It was the first time I saw her since she was a baby, so we were all really excited. It was also my birthday the day I landed so we had a big welcome dinner for everyone in Downtown Disney.

We tried to make this Disneyland trip about Mica just as much as the girls, just because she’s never been before. For the girls, Disneyland was staing to become a repeating occurrence. Unfortunately, Mica was only available to go for one day. We bought her a single-park ticket and chose Disneyland over California Adventure since, you know.. Disneyland!

Too bad Alani doesn’t enjoy rollercoasters as much as Ella. I think it’s just too fast for her. She likes to wander off into her own little world, which she tends to do every time we go to Disneyland.

After Disneyland, we met up at my aunt’s house in Pasadena to celebrate our birthdays, and Mica’s visit.

You know any Filipino party is going to have good food!

The next day was spent at California Adventure. I honestly don’t know which park I prefer the most. Obviously California Adventure caters to more of the older crowd, with the rollercoasters, and alcohol, but Disneyland is such a classic park. You just can’t ignore its value and charm. California Adventure does have my favorite ride, Hollywood’s Tower of Terror. I also really love the view and atmosphere of Paradise Pier at night.
